In the Pouring Rain

For the second straight night, the Spirit and the Capitales were rained out. Last night, the game was rained out and moved to a doubleheader today, but both ends of today's doubleheader were also washed out, leaving two games to be made up. I originally presumed that they'd make up the games at Fraser Field in a few weeks as they wouldn't want to short the teams games toward the 1st half standings. But I gave a call to WESX [not the most reliable source, but the best I can do nonetheless] and the man I spoke with said he heard they were making up the games in August at Le Stade de Quebec. So those are two less chances the Spirit have at beating the Caps head to head to make the 2-game swing.

So hmm.. let me get this straight.. in 2003 New Jersey lost two home dates to North Shore in June because the league didn't want to short NJ or NS games in the 1st half standings. But it's okay to do it to preserve home dates for Quebec. I'm sure this has *nothing* to do with who happens to be the commisioner of the league.

But enough conspiracy theories.

The Spirit return home tomorrow night for some *much needed* home cooking. They have fallen to 9-6 after 3 straight losses ranging back to Sunday. They will play the Grays in a 3-game series this weekend, then will play 2 in Worcester on Monday, then return home Tues. Weds. and Thurs. for 3 with the Rox, including facing Oil Can Boyd on Thursday. The Spirit had best turn it around, as they are losing ground. They are 5 games behind Quebec, and looming just 1/2 game behind is (insert "Halloween" music here.. chh chh chhh ahh ahh ahh) the Brockton Rox. Also, the Rox presently lead the Grays 2-0 in the 7th inning which means we could be tied by the end of the night for 2nd. The Grays are 7.5 back of Quebec.

That's all for now.. be sure to head to Fraser tomorrow for Spirit vs. Grays.

According to the League web site, the games will be part of two doubleheaders in NS on July 1st and 2nd. I assume Quebec will be the 'home' team for the early games on each day.
