“Beautiful Day” Capped Off with Spirit Win, Quebec Loss

First off, today was a great day for baseball. The game time temperature was 89°, with a party cloudy sky and calm wind. The Spirit once again inched toward the Quebec team in first. With a 7-4 Spirit Win and a 9-1 Quebec loss....we're only back 2.5 games!!! Today was also the “triumphant” return of former Spirit Catcher Onix Mercado, playing Catcher for the Pioneers.

ONIX GETS A SINGLE IN THE 2nd, Ks twice.

Thanks to a huge 3rd inning the Spirit won 7-4. In the 3rd we batted around, getting 6 runs on 4 hits! With the bases loaded CF Rob Fischer came up to plate, and he gets hit by a pitch to walk home a run. An RBI-E4 followed, and a 2RBI-1B brought Stuart out of the game. Ford came in and gave a Sacrifice Fly to the CF, Tuttle, to make it 5-2. A single followed by an RBI-2B made it 6-2,sealing the Spirit win. DH Stephen Carter Gets RBI-2B In 3rd To Make It 6-2,Spirit

We scored again in the 8th on 2 Passed Balls, one brought Yuri, who stole 2nd, from 2nd to 3rd, and then another PB brought him home. Elmira scored twice in the 2nd, on a double-steal followed by a throwing error via C Alex Trezza. They scored once in both the 4th and 5th innings. In the 4th it was a walk, followed by an RBI-2B from 1B Booth. The 5th inning had a solo homer from SS Dorsey that barely made it fair. Alexander Herrera went 5.2 innings, giving up 6 hits and striking out 3 while walking 3. Jarrett Sues and Ryan McCally went 4.2 good innings, combined to allow only 2 hits and striking out 3 also. Jared Stuart went 2 innings and faced 6 batters in the 3rd, he gave up 4 runs and 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out none. Brian Ford went 3 innings and Chris Rogue went 2, they combined to allow 2 runs and 4 hits while striking out 4 and walking 4. In the end the Spirit got 7 runs and hits, and got 2 errors, from Trezza and SS Yuri Sanchez. Elmira got 6 runs, 8 hits, and 3 errors from SS Doresy, 3B Bladmir and 2B Jobu Morita. Announcements of Quebec's losing ways were meet by cheers, as we moved within 2 games of the team that’s quickly deteriorating.

2 GAMES OUT IS GOOD, RIGHT? WE THINK SO.
SPIRITFANS.BLOGSPOT.COM PLAYER OF THE GAME: Alex Herrera gets honors here. His stats for the game are above...and without him, and a few others, we probably wouldn’t be where we are now.
