Fireworks Erupt At Fraser, Both On & Off The Field, One Night Early

What a night at Fraser Field, on and off the field! Game 1 of a double-header Vs Quebec saw Herrera taking the mound for the Spirit and Janzen going for Quebec. Both teams were quiet in the first. The Spirit then went on a run streak each of the next 3 innings then 1 run in the 6th. The best team in the league, Quebec, came in and stayed quiet almost all of game 1,scoring only 2 in the 6th to make the final 4-2 in favor of the Spirit. The Spirit won with Herrera going 6.2 innings with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks giving up the 2 runs on only 2 hits! He was taken out in the 6th when, with the bases loaded, he walked in a run. McCally then came in and was lights-out for the rest of the game, giving up no runs or hits. Janzen went all game giving up 4 runs on 10 hits with 7 strikeouts and giving up a homer to Vic. We got the 4 runs the following ways...1)Yuri hit into an RBI fielder’s choice in the 2nd with Weir running home. 2) In the 3rd Vic hit a monster shot onto the visitor’s clubhouse off Janzen. 3) In the 4th Macchi hit a double fowled by an RBI double from Story. 4) In the 6th the Spirit gave some insurance via Storey again, him getting yet another RBI double with Brian going home again. The Spirit then toke a small break of about a half-hour then starting Game 2. It was an extreme breakdown of Spirit pitching in this 8-0 loss, Pleeter went for the Spirit and Castillo went for Quebec. The Spirit bats were quiet all night and so was the pitching, which absolutely sucked!!!!!! Pleeter went 5.1 innings with 6 strikeouts and 4 walks giving up 1 run on 5 hits. In the 5th he did the unthinkable...Pleter gave up a huge 3 RBI inside-the-park homer to CF Geoffrey Tomlinson. That cemented the win, but Quebec got 2 more in the 7th on a 2RBI single from 1B Todd Leathers. Now is a reminder to the frequenters who care only about promotions, there’s a firework show Saturday night at Fraser after the double-header. SPEAKING OF FIREWORKS....the fireworks started a night early at Fraser, both on AND of the field. In the 6th inning both the manager of the Capitales and SS Lee Delfino got ejected on arguing a ball that was called a strike, resulting in a strikeout for Delfino. But before that there was a major disruption in the “Fraser Faithful” ranks....Joe Gravelse was involved in a fiery exchange between the owner of the North Shore spirit, Nick Loprado, in which he lost. Joe was “ejected” from the game and was extremely upset. I’ll let Joe explain what happened.
SPIRITFANS.BLOGSPOT.COM CO-PLAYERS OF GAME 1: Hands down it was a tie between the pitching of Alexander Herrera and the bat and defense of 3B Eric Storey. Herrera and Storey both told great stories tonight and were too good to be put apart as THE Player Of The Game
SPIRITFANS.BLOGSPOT.COM PLAYER OF GAME 2: This is an off-position nomination, but....Miles Wolff is the “PLAYER OF GAME 2”. With some of the most bullshit calls we have ever seen and the antics of some of the players me and Joe agree that HE is the only one who qualified for this category. Miles Wolff should either give up ownership of Le Capitales De Quebec.
NOW FOR AROUND THE LEAGUE....Brockton @ Grays was a Grays win,8-3. Elmira visited New Jersey and lost 4-1, no surprise there. Finally, New Haven and Worcester went at it in a close game, but the ‘Nadoes won it 4-3
See you soon Joe (hopefully)!!!!! Hope to see everyone tomorrow for the fireworks!!
