The North Shore Spirit won two critical games last night, edging out their nemesis, the Brockton Rox, 4-3 in game 1, and disassembling Oil Can and the rest of the Rox in game 2, 10-1. With Quebec's rainout at home vs. the Grays, the Spirit now sit 1.5 games behind Quebec for first place in the North Division with 4 games to go.
In the first game, the Spirit scored 3 runs, highlighted by a 2RBI single by Jose Garcia to give the Spirit the early lead. Brockton chipped away but the Spirit extended their lead to 4-2 in the 5th. In the 7th, however, the Spirit nearly coughed it up. Brockton got a leadoff hit off of Ryan McCally and he moved to 3rd with 2 outs. Then it became very scary. A ground ball was hit to Eric Storey, and, ONCE AGAIN, he threw the ball over the head of Vic Davilla, allowing a run to score. The next man, however, was struck out and the Spirit won. Kelly picked up another win and McCally nailed down the save. In game 2, the Spirit pounded the Rox, scoring 6 runs off of Oil Can in the 10-1 beating. Vic had 2 HRs and Ryan Bicondoa got the win.
Today at 5:05 the Spirit take on the Rox again. Quebec takes on the Grays in a doubleheader at Le Stade starting at 2.
