Burning Questions - July 30

1. Was today's outing by Morse the greatest pitching performance in Spirit history? (at home games, at least)

2. WTF is wrong with the "fans" at Fraser Field? Show a little respect for a guy pitching a perfect game... (OK, this is kind of not really a question. So shoot me)

3. Do you think Quebec's constant bitching about the strike zone was an attempt to distract Morse?

4. Can we all agree that Davilla needs to work with Trezza to make sure he doesn't try to turn into Barry Bonds after every time he hits a homer, and take these gigantic swings that always lead to strikeouts?

5. At this point, do you think the Spirit will end the season with the best overall record in the CanAm league? Additionally, do you think any deals need to be made to bolster the team, and if so, what would you target?

1. Yes

2. Hispanic Farms people know no better.

3. Trezza needs to calm down some--Vic will help w/ That.

4. I forgot the ?.

5. Spirit will win it ALL. 1st half, 2nd half all of it.

1. No. John Kelly's 17 strikeout game in 2004 during that 12 PM game against Bangor remains DA SICKEST ever. This was probably #2, although I do remember Sugarman carrying a no-no into the 7th during a game late into 2004. What was most impressive about Morse today was the way he battled through adversity and delays.

2. Well, I'm the one who editorialized here, so I don't think I need to answer this one.

3. Probably. Sparky can tell us about how he told off Laplante on his way out the door.

4. I like Trezza, everyone knows he's my favorite player, but this is the #1 problem with him. He has shown this year that he's capable of shortening up his swing and lacing singles in addition to hitting bombs (he lead the league in average earlier this year) but it seems like when he hits a HR early in the game, it's almost a bad thing because you know he's going to whiff the next two (or in this case three) times he comes up to bat.

5. Hmm... we're in a hot streak now, so I'd say yes- but let's see how it averages out over time. I'm still of the belief that there is very little difference top to bottom in this league, and everyone will end up somewhere near .500 when the half is over. The champ is going to be the team that peaks at the right time and goes on a good run. With that said, I won't wussy out, since this is my own question- Yes, we'll end up with the best record, but only by a game or two. We won't dominate like we did for much of '04. As for moves, I'd like to see the Spirit solidify the utility IF spot, bring in another corner infielder who can be a late pinch-hitter or a guy who can spell Davilla, Brooks or Reinenger without ruining our defense. Additionally, one more arm in the starting rotation wouldn't hurt, but every team at every level of baseball is looking for that, so it's unrealistic to think we'll be able to bring in someone of quality.

You're right Joe. I forgot about that brown-bag game w/ Kelly. That one has to be #1.

1) This was number two RIGHT behind Kelly's UNMATCHED 19 K game and Sugarman's game Joe mentioned is #3. Joe's right,.....this one is JUST behind Kelly's game because of the adversity he had to overcome to even finish the game without them scoring a run.
2) Ya wanna know what's roing with them? Most of the fans get in for free and don't care. The people, which seem to be abig amount soemtimes,go there to enjoy a QUIET GAME AT THE BALLPARK....WTF!! It's a ballpark, not a morque! The rest of them are the kids that barely know anything about the sport or team and think that cheering on SLugger is more important than cheering on the team!!!!!!!!!!! We need more REAL fans.....and we need to really kick it up getting these fans into it. Me,Joe and Alan started to get them into it,but they don't know shit. As long as the team gets money I doubt Mr Loprado cares if there's cheering going on. Hell, the ushers have told us hw many times to shut it?!?! @#%& them,we can make noise and they can deal with it.
3) They have been known for a long time to stall EVERYTHING. Stall the game, the lineups getting posted...EVERYTHING! I doubt they were doing all that just because they "were bad calls". This is THE WORST display of being poor sports about something. They only stalled to throw Morse off his game, and it kind of worked.
4) Yeah,Vic needs to work with Trezza a little bit more.
5) I think we'll have the best or second best record by a couple of games. I'd like to see us also get a better utllity guy,or someone to fill the void at third (Vic CAN NOT do that forever). I'd also feel comfortable with another dependable starter,I feel good about our bullpen--just give Drown and Dugan a little more work. We can;t just not use them now and use them in the playoffs. Give them some play time, not down time.

Hey "Benoit",

How much are the programs @ Frasier Field Today?.
You think that Bangor team was better than this Quebec team?.

SNAP OUT OF IT!!

DaveCo said...

At first I thought that "beniot emond" was Eric....but there's two things that dismiss that thought:
1) He doesn't have a computer.
2) He was talking to me on the phone as I read this and he said he wasn't repsonsible for that.

Now I think I know EXACTLY who beniot is...but he shall reveal himself when and if he sees fit.

I must agree though with everything he said minus the "Kelly's opponents were better than Quebec" statement. Quebec had been on a hot streak and might still be,minus this game. And the fans tottaly suck except for us core fans....the rest of them dont know whats goign on,want to stay quiet until slugger comes out,and could probably care less if this team stays or goes. THE FANS SUCK! These crowds need to really get more into the games....we need to get going on this. Next series I say we start goign all out and getting the crowds into it.
