In a back and forth affair, the North Shore Spirit outlasted the Elmira Pioneers 11-8 on Sovereign Bank Rally Towel Night at the New Fraser Field.
Klae Calvert (1-0) came out of the Spirit bullpen to pick up the win. Calvert pitched 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits. Ryan Bicondoa pitched the ninth for his league-leading 18th save, and second in less than 24 hours.With the score tied 8-8 in the sixth, North Shore loaded the bases with one out. Leftfielder Joe Hastings stepped up and laced a shot into the gap in right-center, scoring three and putting the Spirit in front to stay.
