DURHAM, NC--The Can-Am League announced today that the North Shore Spirit was selected as the Organization of the Year as voted upon by the eight league field managers and media representatives.

"As General Manager of the Spirit I am extremely proud that our staff was just awarded the highest honor in our league, Organization of the Year for 2006,” said Spirit Senior Vice President/General Manager Brent Connolly. “Each staff member in the Spirit family should be very proud of their individual accomplishments and know that we did it as a team. For that, I wish to thank each and everyone of them for the great job they did this past season!"

In 2006, North Shore ushered in 102,649 fans through the gates at Fraser Field, an average of 2,701. They claimed the league’s best overall record, winning both halves, and qualified for postseason play for the third time in the team’s four year existence. The Spirit as well earned Manager of the Year, Player of the Year, and Rookie of the Year honors.

Also, the Spirit put up their own expanded story about the honor, http://www.northshorespirit.com/news/ <~ here.

As has been mentioned, the Spirit have signed Zach Strong off waivers today. Zach Strong's a pretty good ballplayer, but it's definitely way too early to analyze player moves... remember last year when we thought we were going to have Heargraves and Jianetti? So I'll hold off on talking about that.

It looks like the Winter Meetings have concluded if they're issuing press releases. We shall see what we shall see.

It is kind of nerve-racking that we don't positivly know if they're staying or going, but like I've said it looks positvie right now to me.....but let's look at the good!

The Spirit are the organization of the year! This is great because I don't think anyone else truely deserved the award this year other than us. Congrats to the players, workers and management on this accomplishment.
