The Spirit signed Chad Gabriel, a 22 year old LS-2 who put up decent numbers at A-ball the past two years. This leads me to believe that one of the two vets will definitely be gone.
Additionally, De Vries has disappeared from the roster, with no news posted about him on the transactions page. Bye bye Johnny. "Run it out!"
In other news, Northeastern won the Baseball Beanpot today with a rain-shortened 2-0 win over BC.

YAY/BOO!
agreed. cmon, johnny! say g'bye!
wonder when they are retiring his number?
they should do it at the first home game, no?
btw, what WAS his number?
Can someone fill me in on the "run it out" joke?
Run it out ( I Think) hit the High water mark in New Haven last season when DeVries cornered Joe G. In the stands and asked why were yelling at him to run out a play.......WICKED FUNNY to see, laughed my ass off.
Later I made the faux-pas and was yelling for Tommy Bag-o'- Donuts when he had been tossed from the game and was sitting RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!.
BUT....
The piece de resistance had to be Joe's comment on the trophy wife...ask him about THAT one...
Sparky
de Vries failed to run it out on a hit to the 3rd baseman, which the 3rd baseman bobbled, but was able to recover in time to retire de vries because he wasn't running it out.
This gave me an excuse to rag on him, other than his abysmal fielding and hitting abilities; the next time he was up, we chanted "RUN IT OUT, RUN IT OUT," and, what do you know, he did. :)
OK - it's similar to Nats prospect Ian Desmond who had a lovely habit of swinging at the first pitch he saw no matter how bad or off-target. I began to shout "Take The Pitch!"
