SPIRIT WIN 7-3!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chris Farley pitched six solid innings, giving up just three runs to pick up the victory. Jamie Baker, Derek Drage, and Dennis Robinson shut the door from there, giving the Spirit their 7th win of the season.
Interestingly enough, Vic gave Dennis Robinson the ball in the 9th instead of Kevin Fitzgerald. Maybe something like this was needed to give the bullpen a kick in the pants. Fitz has been very unstable so far this year. I’m confident that he’ll turn it around, but until then let’s hope Robinson can do their job.
The Spirit brought their bats to tonight’s game Jerson Perez and Brad Rea got solo homers in the seventh and eighth, respectively to give the Spirit bullpen some much-needed insurance. Each of those guys had a pair of RBI on the night as Rea knocked home the first Spirit run in the 2nd and Rea brought a run home in the 4th.
The Spirit then put together a big inning in the 3rd – and the key to it all was BJ Weed, the leadoff hitter, who grounded one to the right side of the infield and busted it down the line to pick up the infield hit. He came around to score on another hustle play. Carlos Rodriguez was up with runners on first and third and one out. Carlos chopped it to shortstop where it looked like Chas Terni had a chance to attempt the double play. But as he saw BJ Weed breaking for home plate, he went home with the ball, but Weed hustled down the line and got around the catcher’s tag to tie the game.
Mike Torres and Wally Rosa added RBI hits in the inning to give the Spirit a 4-2 lead. In the 4th the Spirit stretched their lead and BJ Weed was again a factor. Gil Gil led off the inning with a double and was moved to 3rd on a picture-perfect bunt by BJ Weed. Then Perez was able to bring him home with a single to make it 5-2.
The Spirit now have two more at home against the hapless Cutters before wrapping up the homestand with another three against the flying Grays.
POTG: Tough call... but I'll say Perez. He added some nice defense with his solid hitting.

Three things to add:
1) LMAO!!!!!! GREAT opening to the post
2) Tonight we played like we should be playing.....not every night, but pretty often. I hope we can keep this up. Everyone was just doing everything right.
3) YAY FIREWORKS TOMORROW! Horray for big one-game crowds =]
ALSO,I'll have to second the vote for Perez as POTG. He was great tonight
I'm kind of glad that I'm missing tomorrow's game --- fireworks crowds are the 3rd most annoying, behind only Slugger's reading night and Garelick Farms Family Day.
BTW:
happy positive things, too
kevin fitz was down with strep throat, unable to play...should be back tonite
Interesting... thanks for the info!
I LOOOOOOVE Garelick Farms Oh-so- happy Family day!!

Granted, the 2, 5-4-3's started with balls hit right @ Torres, but we'll take em".

Torres actually made a nice play, if I recall correctly, leaping up to make a stab...
Also on an earlier ball he bobbled, he recovered and got the guy out. Good to see.

I actually like Fireworks nights... because you can usually count on getting out of the parking lot and/or beating the traffic while the pseudofans gape and gawk. I've seen games in 17 states and it's pretty much the same everywhere.
A familar Spirit reciever made his way through Knoxville Tennessee from Arizona this afternoon. Alex Trezza and I had lunch today and told me that if a deal doesn't come through this weekend with an affiliation, he'll be in NS next week. It's unfortunate that he was released by the Rockies but he's excited to be back with the spirit. give him a much deserved welcome back, hopefully he's what is needed to break up the .500 ball being played up there.
Andy Howdeshell
Thanks for checking in, Andy-- how you been?
That's good news (for us) about Trezza, but I wish he was able to stay with the Rockies. He's a damn good player.
I'm doing well, staying in shape and swinging a bit... just in case the spirit need a little southern flavor! I hope all of you are doing well.
I'm doing pretty well, personally - had a good first year at Boston College and am now working at BC for the summer. And with the Red Sox in first place and the Spirit back above .500, I can't complain! Good luck with everything and thanks for dropping by.
