Siak cruises, Spirit win

SPIRIT WIN 9-2!!!

The theme all year for the Spirit has been good pitching and no offense.

But tonight, the offense put together another good effort (9 runs on 9 hits), the defense did well (1 error) and Joey Siak was brilliant as usual, pitching 8 shutout innings in the Spirit's 9-2 victory over the CanAm Grays.

There was one point of concern in the game---Kevin Fitzgerald came in with a nine run lead in the 9th and struggled mightily. He gave up 2 runs in 2/3 of an inning and was lifted in favor of Donny Langdon after hitting a Grays batter. Langdon came in and got the last out.

Spirit 9 9 1
Grays 2 6 3
ATT: 2042
Player of the game: Siak

Everett Stull, who dominated the Spirit in the last series between these two teams, was hit hard, giving up 5 runs over 6 innings. The first three runs were unearned, but the Spirit chased Stull as BJ Weed and Gary Roche picked up RBI singles in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.

Dustin Neilson came in to pitch for the Grays in the 7th and let the Spirit blow the game open. Alex Trezza, making his 2007 Spirit debut, got his only hit of the night, an infield single as the Spirit loaded the bases. With the bases full, Mike Torres launched a grand slam, the 2nd Spirit grand slam in as many nights and Torres's 3rd home run of the season, making it 9-0 North Shore.

Chris Farley battles Elliott Shaw tomorrow night at 7:05 as the Spirit will be looking, once again, for their first true series sweep of the season.

it was indeed a great outing from siak tonight.
It was also great to see Alex Trezza back in the lineup, and he was happy to see some regulars as well. =]

I also want to correct ya joe,the first three runs were not all unearned. In the 2nd Rodriquez walked, stole a base then was driven in by a Toress double. Then the next two runs came on an E4. Also, Weed had an RBI double, not single

And Fitzy did seem to REALLY strugle when he came in. Hopefully he can overcome in his next outing.

I take back the weed double statement......I must've been distaracted at the time and accidently put down double, cause at the time I saw him at 2nd.

If both you and the spirit site say single,it must be so. :-p

PS: I took some videos tonight. I shall compile them into a video, but don't expect it until Friday or later.
