Wooden's statistical tidbit

If you've been following along with the left sidebar of this website --- by the way, this is the ONLY site on the 'net that's keeping track of overall standings that I've been able to find --- you know that the Spirit last night moved into a tie with New Jersey for best overall record in the league. Wooden observes:

"Since dropping to two games below .500 (14-16) on June 26, this team has gone 25-10, twice winning six in a row (6/27-7/2, 7/14-21) and losing consecutive games just twice (7/4-DH, 7/6; 7/29-DH)"

Strangely enough, after reading up on the CanAm playoff format, it appears that whether they have the #1 overall record or not, the 2nd half winner will be playing the #3 playoff qualifier. So, if things keep up as they are now, brush up on your French skills again because a battle with Quebec is looking almost inevitable --- if the Spirit can hang on to the 2nd half crown. (knock on wood)

Where the #1 record comes in is determining who gets home field in the championship series -- and this year, home field is defined as games 3, 4 and 5 at home, which I suppose is an improvement from having games 1 and 2 at home, but 3, 4 and 5 on the road.

Also, as noted in the comments to last night's article, those with tickets to last night's game can turn in their stubs at the box office and get a free ticket to today's shindig against Worcester...which is where I am off to right now.

Nice job keeping up with everything, but the overall standings have also been at the bottom of the Can-Am League site for at least a week now.

I was about to say that as well......I believe they've been there since a few days after the first half ended.
Right now we're still tied with them--they won 9-7 against Quebec today.

That playoff format still confuses me a lil
