In case you kids missed it... old friend Ryan Bicondoa won the So. Md. Blue Crabs' inaugural game last night, allowing one unearned run on five hits over 5.2 innings, walking three, and striking out four.

Hi Joe,
Couple of questions for you. Being a B.C. guy...please tell me what really happened with Brady Smith? I can't believe that without due process, he was dismissed like that? What's the word around the locker room? 2. How did the football team look on Saturday? :)
3. I love the alligator...I see that the uniforms will be a nice blue and white. I can't wait for the summer.
Thanks,

The general gist of the Brady Smith situation is that whether he's guilty of 'something worse' or not, he is already guilty of acting irresponsibly. He apparently got very drunk, made a pass at a girl who rejected him, then followed her.

At the very least, that kind of behavior is inappropriate for someone who represents the BC community in public, and he deserves to be off the team - and at worst ,he's going away for a long time.

With that said, don't bring out the lynch mobs yet. We've seen people accused of things falsely many times before, particularly when alcohol is clouding both parties' memories of the incident. I'm sure that if he is cleared he will be given a chance to return to school (but not the football team).

I presume that the case will be settled outside of court and he will move on and finish his school somewhere else.

It's a difficult situation as both Smith and the alleged victim are BC students, so I wish both of them the best (unless Smith is guilty, in which case he deserves whatever the justice system determines).

The football team looked OK on Saturday. Chris Crane, the QB heir appparent, was solid but unspectacular. He's a big guy who can throw on the run and scramble when he has to. Josh Haden, the true freshman HB, needs some seasoning, but he's got a quick first step that BC fans haven't seen in a while.

The offensive line isn't great, but it looked a lot better in this scrimmage than in the previous two.

The defense is looking very strong. The secondary was surprisingly good - true freshman Donnie Fletcher had a 101 yard INT return for a TD (!), Brian Toal played decently in his return to the field, and the D-line generally had the edge over the o-line.

It's tough to judge a team based on the spring game as the coaches tend to keep the offense 'vanilla' so as not to give too much away to the opposition.

I like the alligator too. The color theme is a sort of Dodger blue thing. I like it.

Thank you very much' Joe. I am happy to see Brian Toal healthy again this year and hope he finishes well. :)
