Big Inning, Power Pitching propel Spirit win 3rd Straight Win

One big inning was all the North Shore Spirit needed Sunday evening as they breezed to a 8-1 victory in a crisp, well-played game at Fraser Field. John Kelly picked up another win for the Spirit in yet another dominating outing, pitching a complete game and not surrendering a run til the 9th inning. The win propels the Spirit 19-16, good for 2nd place in the North Division, 3.5 games behind Quebec. The Spirit now have one more game against Quebec tomorrow night before welcoming New Jersey to town for 4 games in 3 days; with a win tomorrow the Spirit would be down 2.5 to Quebec with 10 games to go in the first half- 4 vs NJ, 3 @ the Rox and 3 at home vs Elmira.

The Spirit got all the offense that would be necessary in the 3rd inning. Newbie Jose Garcia finally made a splash with a leadoff double off the wall in CF. One out later, Yuri Sanchez scored him with a double of his own. The next man, Marcos Agramonte, chopped a double over the head of 1B Todd Leathers to score Sanchez and make it 2-0. Rob Fischer then practically put it out of reach early with a smoked 2 R homer to make it 4-0. The hits kept on coming with a Vic Davilla single, then an Alex Trezza homer to put the Spirit up 6-0; they would never look back.

The Spirit added even more run support in the 8th with a smoked Travis Oglesby home run over everything in left field to make it 8-0. That was way more than enough for the amazing John Kelly. He walked the leadoff man 4 times in the game, but never let that come back to bite him, getting clutch outs when he needed them (although without the characteristic big strikeout numbers- but he still got the job done). In the 9th, Quebec got a run back but it was academic at that point, as Kelly and the Spirit cruised to the win. For Quebec Rick Kirsten got the loss, although he too chipped in a complete game, and only had one really bad inning. But nonetheless it was enough for the Spirit to come away victorious.

HAPPY 4th to all and come to Fraser tomorrow- remember it's a 5:05 start!
