Burning Questions, August 7 2006

1. A nice, easy rhetorical question to start: How piss-poor horrid was homeplate ump Don January tonight? I know we like to be nice to the local guy but JESUS..

2. Did Morgan Brown just earn himself good will- and more playing time- with tonight's excellent performance?

3. What was the #1 key play of tonight's game?

4. Did John Kennedy wait too long to bring in a reliever in favor of Jared Trout?

5. Do you read into Rival closing out today's game at all? Is this the start of bullpen by comittee? Is Rival going to close now with recent struggles by Fitzy? Or is this just temporary due to overuse? Bullpen speculation and things that make you go hmmm.... go here

1. Horrible. Spike-the rulebook guru-had no explanation for the botched dropped third strike call in the seventh. His strike zone was inconsistent for both teams and as much as I want to rag on Gibson for flipping out at him in the 5th it was a bogus call

2. This is another sorta rhetorical question. Yes. A little birdie tells me the Spirit really like Morgan.

3. BJ Weed's sac-bunt play gone wrong that set up the doublesteal to score the 4th Spirit run. At that point, the Cutters were unravelling.

4. Yes, yes, yes. Dugan came in and got the job done by putting the fire out, but the fire coulda been a lot smaller.

5. I think Kennedy is showing that he plans on tweaking and tinkering a bit in this half to find the perfect combination for the postseason. If that means experimenting with the 'pen, so be it. I don't expect the Rob-Fitz combination to fall out of favor at the end of the games, but I also don't expect JK won't at least try some other things to see what other weapons he has.

1. Yeah,January sucked tonight....and I think he's usually decent. He's just another example of an ordinary ump in this league...
2. Morgan is starting to be liked by us fans? This is weird....but everyone is really starting to like this guy. I gues it must've just took some time for him to start batting good. We shuld deffinitly keep him around no matter what,he seems to be developing into a great UTL guy.
3. I agree with Joe
4. Also agree with Joe...
5. and again,I agree with Joe.

So I agreed with Joe on all 5 points basically....odd. Another question shoudl've been "How much fun was it heckling Sandy?" ^_^

Sucks that Macchi won't be back, but why won't he be after he signed and we were told he would be? Also, good to hear JD is on the way back...and I hope that Rowan will eb back soon too.

I have to say I feel Sabino was the player of the game, not Morgan.
Obviously the big hit (triple) was HUGE. But, I was even more impressed with his plate presence, turning around to hit Right handed. Maybe even bigger was the excellent catch he made up against the right field fence. This kid wants to play every day and games like this are gonna' keep him in there.

Dave:
I am running for political office and need a "yes" man; are You interested?.

Hey Benoit, take your phony French bullshit with You when You go, would Ya'?.
