We win... again

I had a family commitment and couldn't make it to the game today. But from the tidbits I heard on the radio, although it was a raw, rainy day, it was a good, entertaining one. The Spirit win YET AGAIN, 2-0, on a day when every other league game was rained out.

Matt Bishop shut out the Tornadoes over 8 to get the win and improve to 5-1; Kevin Fitzgerald broke the league record with save #22.

The first Spirit run came on a Luis Sabino triple in the 4th followed by a balk. In the 5th the Spirit got another on an Anton Gray RBI single. Gray sparkled again defensively as he did in his debut last night.

The Spirit now have their home finale for the regular season tomorrow night, with the magic number for the #1 overall seed @ 2.

Just one burning question...
1. So, how do you handle the pitching staff from here? How do you approach the last 7 games? Then, the big question: How do you set up the rotation & bullpen for the playoffs?

Run through the rotation one more time. Then start Rival & Farley in the last two games. I know Farley's been good for us, but I don't boot someone else out of the rotation for him right now.

PLAYOFFS:
1. Morse
2. Siak
3. Bishop
4. McNamara

Trout & Farley - one of them as the first long man if there's trouble or to eat innings in a blowout; the other to svae incase of an extra-innings situation

Robinson/Rival/Dugan- team up to be the bridge guys to Fitzgerald

Ya,the game today was great and there was a momeent of temporary confussion.....in the bottom of the 7th the first two Spirit batters hit singles, then Brown hit inot a fielder's choice. Next up is Sabino....he hits it to the first baseman, who turns to throw to second--but he doesn't. Without a moment to spare he turned to first to try to get Sabino out,but Luis reaches! For a few minutes we were wondering why there wasn't another hit or error up...we found that that because second was considered as an out,it was a fielder's choice--even though there were no outs recorded.

Great outing by Bishop,a two hitter...and one of them was a single that turned into an error BY Bishop that advanced the runner to 2nd. Another stellar performance by Fitzy, and congrats on a new Can-Am League record of 22 saves!!! ^_^

Now for the burning questions....

Firstly,they're starting the new
pitcher Sam Smith.....maybe he too can be proven a good starter.
For the playoffs I'd have it:
1) Morse
2) McNamara
3) Bishop
4) Siak
5) Trout
I dunno bout you,but I like that rotation...but whatever Kennedy putsa down will work too...all these starters are great. I also heard that Farley was done for the season, but someone said that that didn't mean he was out for the playoffs. I dunno, but as of now I'm not expecting him to pitch. And the bullpen Joe listed will work great.

Luis Sabino deserves a day or two off. He REALLY earned it.

The answer to Quiz question #1 is the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the Northern League. The second one I'm just going to quess is one of the umps. Honestly,I don't have a clue about that one....

1. Morse
2. Bishop
3. Siak
4. McNamara

5. Trout wpould be on his normal
rest.

Brian is our ace and Bishop's performance has been outstanding.
I also feel splitting up the two guys that throw the off-speed braeking stuff makes sense.

Luis Sabino has got to stay in and I think he's earned respect from his teammates an coaching staff with the way he has played; hes' exhibited steady improvement.

If Wishy gets on one of his streaks it will be a tougher decision.

What?, the Northern League has a SHORT season ?. .... wimps.
