2007 Team Chart

I'll update this throughout the offseason as new information becomes available. If you have any new information to add, leave it in a comment. Thanks and I hope you find this useful! -Joe
*I hope to put this in a more readable form eventually.*

SPIRIT 2007 TEAM CHART

Red=changes

BOLD w*=Confirmed

BOLD=information leads me to believe it’s likely

Italic=questionable

Plain text= no information to the contrary available

Catcher

2006: Alex Trezza, Jon de Vries

2007: Jon de Vries?

Info: Alex Trezza is going to spring training with the Rockies. If he gets cut there's a chance hell be back. de Vries: although I can’t ever remember a backup returning the next season. They usually find someplace else to start.

1st Base

2006: Vic Davilla

2007: Jeff Brooks?

Info: I am fairly certain that Jeff Brooks will be back although I’m not sure if he’ll play 1st or continue to be the DH, in which case the Spirit would have to find a new 1st baseman (unless Davilla unretires again)

2nd Base

2006: Ryan Bethel, Ricardo Cordova

2007: Ricardo Cordova, Michael Cockrell?

Info: Cordova is a solid, long-time CanAm leaguer and all indications are he’ll be back in 2007. Bethel’s been traded to Evansville for LHP Donny Langdon. Chris Hall was acquired from Sioux Falls but then traded to St. Paul almost as soon as he arrived. INF Michael Cockrell was acquired from RIver City for Tim Dugan- he seems to be a utility IF type.

Shortstop

2006: Chris Rowan

2007: Chris Rowan

Info: Rowan is the cornerstone of the lineup right now with Davilla gone.

3rd Base

2006: Antoin Gray, Morgan Brown

2007: Zach Strong

Info: Spirit acquired free agent Zach Strong in the fall just after the season. Gray was traded back out west to finish the rent-a-player deal. No info on Strong, but he’s another Can-Am lifer who I presume will be around, but I have no info to back that up. No info about Morgan Brown’s plans. Chris Hall was acquired from Sioux Falls but then traded to St. Paul almost as soon as he arrived.

Outfield:

2006: Luis Sabino, BJ Weed, Andrew Wishy, Rob Fischer

2007: Luis Sabino, BJ Weed*, Carlos Rodriguez, Shaun Lehmann

Info: Spirit acquired Rodriguez as a free-agent in September. Fischer remains on the roster but it’s doubtful he’d say, he probably wants to once again go closer to home. The Spirit traded Wishy to Worcester in October in the Cordova deal. This leads me to believe that they are fairly secure that the other OFs they have will be around. Weed is confirmed. Shaun Lehmann was signed out of Kentucky in January and could compete for a spot.

Starting pitchers:

2006: Bryan Morse, Shawn McNamara, Chris Farley, Joey Siak, Matt Bishop, Sam Smith

2007: Bryan Morse, Shawn McNamara, Chris Farley, Joey Siak, Matt Bishop?, Michael Greenhouse?, Craig Snipp

Info: Sam Smith was traded out west to complete a rent-a-player swap. No info yet indicating anything about the other five guys. Morse figures to be back; McNamara will likely be back unless he’s picked up by an organization, which probably should happen. The Spirit acquired Michael Greenhouse from Sussex, who started ten times and was a reliever twice last year. He was pretty terrible (surprise, surprise- he was on Sussex). Craig Snipp was signed out of the University of Kentucky and is a fairly promising lefty who started 18 games in 2006.

Relievers:

2006: Kevin Rival, Tim Dugan, Kevin Fitzgerald, Dennis Robinson

2007: Kevin Fitzgerald, Dennis Robinson, Matt Bishop?, Michael Greenhouse?, Jamie Baker?, Donny Langdon?, Melvin Alvarez

Info: Kevin Rival was traded to Worcester in October as part of the Cordova deal. No info yet about the others, but I’m sure the Spirit would like to keep them. The Spirit acquired Michael Greenhouse from Sussex, who started ten times and was a reliever twice last year. He was pretty terrible (surprise, surprise- he was on Sussex). Jamie Baker's reversionary rights were acquired from Nashua. He was a great pitcher last year but I betcha he'll still be in an organization next season. Donny Langdon was a solid LHP for Evansville in the Frontier League; he was acquired for Ryan Bethel on Dec. 08. Tim Dugan was traded to River City for INF Mike Cockrell 12-11-06. Long-time inactive LHP Melvin Alvarez signed in Jan.

Coaches:

2006: John Kennedy, Tom Donahue, Jim Tgettis, Jeff Ware, Vic Davilla (player-coach)

2007: Vic Davilla (manager), Tom Donahue, Jeff Ware

Info: Kennedy ousted at manager; 1B coach and hitting coach TBA.

where the F*** would devries go to to start?! not even SUSSEX would take him for that...

no offense to the guy. he's still my favorite player.

If the team is anything like what Joe described here I still think that we're good next year, depsite a few "key loses".

Second the "DeVries start elsewhere?!?!?!" statement.

He's a good backup, but I doubt he'd find a place to start. Besides,we got a pretty good thing with switching between him and Trezza, each brings something different to the plate. *no pun inytended*
