Attention SPIKE -- How's this for a rumor? Butch Hobson gives up his job to go home to California and none other than Vic Davilla takes over the Nashua job. Have you heard anything about this?

Great Article by Bob Wirz about Victoria. For those of you who don't know him- he sold the Spirit to nick Lopardo. He is also the former chief spokesman for Major League Baseball Commissioners Bowie Kuhn and Peter Ueberroth. Six years as publicity and public relations director for the Kansas City Royals

Thanks for posting this link. (Did anyone poke around and discover the photo of Brent Connolly at the bottom of the 2004 annual update?)

I heard a Booster ask Butch if he'll be back in 2008. He said it's under discussion. This would be the third and final year of his contract. I presume the existence of a contract means he is satisfied with the financial terms--I think he was paid well for the Can-Am, comparably to his salary when Nashua was in the longer-season Atlantic League, in exchange for some off-season work; he has moved his family to California since he signed it, but the team has been tolerant of this, even giving him a secretive midseason weekend off to close on a house. The only reason he might not be back is if new co-ownership, or new conditions needed to attract co-owners, makes the new Pride less willing to continue these concessions.

If the Nashua franchise survives, it will surely be interested in raiding the Spirit's remaining assets (and, I hope, the loyalty of its fans), and knowledgeable about them, the team being run by the former Spirit assistant GM.

It seems the team has made a specific point of sending (selling) NO players to the Pride.
Jackals, Tornadoes and Rox have all gotten fat on Spirit roster, not Nashua.
Too Bad...
How sad...

I love a good conspiracy theory!

It's not that the Spirit is not selling, but that Nashua is not acquiring players, not from the Spirit nor anyone else--only sold Palazzolo and Rosario to the SF Giants.

On the Pride web site, the club has gone beyond giving playoff attendees a free general-admission "season ticket" for 2008 to fatten the mailing list; it is now accepting cash partial payments for real 2008 season tickets. I have not read that 2008 is guaranteed--we are due news in the coming week--but you either start making commitments now that it will be costly to unwind, or you have your employees, advertisers, players, and customers assume you are kaput and start making other plans. Stay tuned.
