First thing's first - I am NOT bellyaching about BC's fate. We had our chance to go to the Orange Bowl and got a big fat L. Period. But this tells you all you need to know about the system.
BC=#13 in the BCS computer rankings = Whogivesafuck.com bowl against 7-5 Michigan State who lost to Northwestern
Clemson=#15 in the BCS computer rankings= Peach Bowl (pretty good!) against Auburn
Illinois=#16 in the BCS computer rankings= Rose Bowl, the 'granddaddy,' against USC

Horray flawed systems!
^_^
Joe - Actually, somebody at my work put it very well: The BCS ranking are only for determining #1 and #2, the rest of it is about spreading the money around. Admittedly, the BCS system is better than the old one where the same two conferences ALWAYS faced off in the [Insert Name Here] Bowl, which still lives on in the absurd examples you pointed out. He argued that we ought to revert to it and let the geeks do their rankings, to which I'd agree except that getting into Bowl A vs. Bowl B is a big difference for schools that rely on the bowl payout to fund their athletic program.
Navigators! I like it! I like it a great deal! The emblem looks very nice too. I'll have to buy a hat as soon as I can. Thank you for everything Joe, this blog means a great deal and we are so happy to have baseball on the North Shore, next year.
Sincerely,
David D.

Logo is good, but are they really going to use red, white & blue for the colors? Joe, say it ain't so?!
